I have a few older Yonder Mountain String Band albums and really enjoyed them. I liked their modern take on bluegrass/ folksy/ Americana music. So when my friend said he had the newest one "The Show" I had to borrow it. While driving home listening to it, I had to pop it out and double-check it to make sure he didn't give me a different CD.

I don't know what happened on this album. There's lot of drums and other instruments to make it sound more like a real more-modern country group. Sorry guys, but news flash, new country-pop is awful. Their classic fancy guitar pickin' bluegrass-y stuff has really been subdued/ toned down on this album.

To me, this screams of selling out, crossing over, or the band moving in unwelcome directions. For the traditionalists and hardcore fans, I'm guessing they will hate this new album. I'm glad I only borrowed my friend's copy. If he hadn't told me this was YMSB, he easily could have fooled me into thinking it was someone else. Not recommended unless you're a big fan of newer country-pop.

I am surprised that so many "long-time" YMSB fans are not pleased with this album. To me, this album represents what makes YMSB so great! It is not just innovative, they take major chances that most artists would not dare consider for a studio album. Sure, a couple songs miss, but others are classics. This is progressive bluegrass folks! If you want traditional bluegrass, go buy a Stanley Brothers album. (those are great too!) This album feels like it was written for a new generation of open-minded, progressive bluegrass fans. Like me. I love it.

It turns into rural pop (AKA Modern country). Seriously, Most of the stuff on here sounds like the Barenaked ladies tried to go country. What has happenned to you yonder, and please tell me this phase won't last long!

Just listen to "Dreams" or the last 1/2 of "Honestly" and then ask yourself how anybody doesn't hear the classic YMSB sound and plenty of energy and love for music. And true fan of YMSB will like most of this disc, although there are a couple tracks the drums distract more than add. Newbies to this band might wish to check out other material first, but this isn't that far away from what you'll here on a given night when they play live.

this album is awesome. the lyrics and music on some songs always give me chills & can make me teary eyed and a huge smile to my face all at once. having seen them perform some of these songs live, sans drums, i can say they did a killer job of writing songs they can expand upon during their shows. during one song they used some sort of effects pedal or something and it was KILLER!! the band seems to be growing beautifully. very happy i bought it!
