This is about as pretentious as any musical adventure I have heard. It is entirely self conscious, insipidly pandering, and musical nonsense. Like the sounds of a drill bit missing it's mark, this music grates and goes only as far as the scared hipster who, amongst friends, will not openly say what is completely obvious...the emperor has no clothes. Save your money or give to Haiti or something.

Although I like a lot of alt music- Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Fever Ray etc., Dirty Projectors took a lot more work. Someone sent me their previously best known song like 2 years ago, (Rise Above) and I couldn't stand it.

When "Stillness is the Move" became "the" single from Bitte Orca, I was like, here we go again. But as 2009 wore on, as the good reviews piled up, and as I saw them play Cannibal Resource on late night TV, I started listening to them in a little different light.

By the end of the year, it was the album I went back to more and more and could stand up to serious airplane listening. Sure it's complex. No it's not for everyone. But it's accomplished and totally awesome if you listen. Or better yet, see them live. Watching the Roots freak out over them on Fallon a few months ago was nice. You see, the complexity of their sound tends to blow people away in person when they realize those are real people making all that music.

David Longstreth is not your average composer, arranger or vocalist. Nor is he your average guitarist- the album has the best power riffs on any alt album I've heard in years. (Power chords probably not the right word)

Great, great album. And recently, "Rise Above" came on unexpectedly at a party. What an AMAZING song...

I don't think that I would usually be into a band like the Dirty Projectors, but for some reason I found myself really liking this album. There are certainly sounds on this CD that you don't usually hear in other music, but there's enough here that you'd find in more "traditional" music that you can enjoy the songs without needing any extra meaning behind them. The songs still make you feel like you're adding new sound to your collection. I'm sure for some people they'll still find extra meaning in what they hear, but I didn't need to, and I'm still into it.

This album is unbelieveably good. If you have heard Dirty Projectors' earlier work, it is similar, but a lot clearer, easier to get into, but just as interesting and innovate. Dave Longstreth writes some really good songs, and gives some amazing lead vocal parts to the other singers (Amber and Angel, girls on cover) that just blow yoru mind. I can't get tired of it, and it manages to be incredibly interesting and easy to listen to. Unbelieveable.

Dave Longstreth is his generation's Captain Beefheart. He combines "normal" musical sounds with drastic, sometimes jarring, rhythmic and sonic changes. BITTE ORCA is the first Dirty Projectors album that I've heard and I must say that it is one of the most unique albums I found all year. Recommended if you like Dear Science by TV on the Radio, Actor by St. Vincent, or Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear.
