I bought seasons 1 to 3 and loved it. Nice packaging, came in quick time and of course enjoyed the material. I'm not talking about the pros / cons of Supernatural - Either you like this kinda genre or you don't. As far as quality of production, screenplay, editing, etc it's great given the TV budget. Not 5 stars because the "extras" on the DVDs are unclear as to exactly which discs they are on.

This review is not on the content but rather the pricing. This was the season that took place during the writers strike. (The writers even poke fun at themselves in a returning episode when they call themselves "lazy fat cats".)

My issue is why would I pay same amount on past season's DVD sets with full episode lineups when this one has half. I just cannot bring myself to do it. The extras are not worth that much.

Great Season (which includes the outstanding 'A Very Supernatural Christmas').

One huge complaint with the Blu-ray edition: There is no menu -- other than a pop-up, which can only be accessed after the first episode of each disc is already playing. Very annoying if you're looking to play a specific episode. Unlike the DVDs of Seasons 1 & 2 (which go straight to the main menu, offering a list of the episodes featured on each disc), the Blu-ray discs of Season 3 begin to play the first episode straight off, forcing you to have to hit pause, then bring up the pop-up menu to find the episode you're looking for.

Those Winchester boys always flirt with danger. The third season of "Supernatural" added some unusual twists that made for an entertaining, exceptional third season for the show.

The upside--a terrific looking Blu-ray transfer with plenty of detail, rich, dark blacks and a nice smooth look to the show. Digital imperfections are minimal and hardly noticable unless you're really looking for them. Sound is also extremely good with hice use of the surround channels. Audio is in Dolby Digital Surround 5.1 NOT in TrueHD.

The extras are the same as on the regular DVD set although this is packaged in a Blu-ray multi-disc pack as oppposed to the cardboard packaging for the regular DVD and in standard definition for the ones I've watched so far.

There's a booklet with info about each episode and also digital download as part of this package (although it's not from disc but, instead, like the original DVD from iTunes.


The extras are the same as the conventional It would have been nice to have the option with BDLive for this to post your own commentary tracks (since this season doesn't have them--instead we get "A Closer Look" featurettes with the writers/producers/directors discussing the making of the episode, challenges they faced and inspiration for them)or to have a commentary track with PIP but that's a minor quibble.


The only downside for season three was that we got fewer episodes because of the Writer's Strike but that didn't prevent creator Eric Kripke along with producers/writers Sera Gamble, Ben Edlund (creator of one of my fav cult shows "The Tick"), producer/director Kim Manners ("The X-Files")and producer/director Robert Singer ("Lois and Clark", "Midnight Caller" and "Monk" among other projects) from presenting one of the strongest seasons yet of the series.

Dean (Jensen Ackles) has sold his soul to save his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki)from death. Sam devotes himself to try and find a way out for his brother from this binding deal and they find a new adversary--Lillith a major, nasy demon. They find Ruby (Katie Cassidy) a demon WHO is surprisingly on their side and instructs Sam (and a very reluctant Dean) in how to fight Lillith. The Winchester boys also must face off against Bela (Laruan Cohan)who often allies herself with them so she can extract her own pound of flesh--she's a dealer in supernatural curios and makes millions doing it. The third season also finds the boys facing the seven deadly sins incarnate, being pursued by their nemesis the hunter Gordon (Sterling K. Brown), being caught by the FBI (and facing an oncoming army of dark assassins working for Lilith), changlings that infiltrate a neighborhood, dealing with those goofy "ghostchasers" who shoot a pilot for their own TV series and also manage to stir a very nasty ghost in the process.

The variation on "Groundhog Day" took an unusual twist midway through which improved the quality of that episode. It moves from comic to sobering and quite moving as Sam copes with Dean's fate and learns what caused them to repeat the same day over and over again.

It's a terrific set and well worth picking up on Blu-ray although I will admit that even with the reduced price, it's still pretty steep for only 16 episodes. Still, it's 16 strong episodes (although there is a clinker or two most nicely mix horror, suspense and humor).


Highly recommended. Those with little ones should be warned, however, that there is occasional bad langauge and some pretty scary situations.

Supernatural Season 3 was a great season. While many other TV shows went stale, Supernatural kept a great cast and story going.

On Blu-ray, the video is extremely clear. The blacks look great and the picture in general is even much better than the HD broadcasts since there isn't any noise. The sound is good as well but I am disappointed that Warner didn't include any lossless sound for this TV show.

Another great feature on this set is they include a digital copy of the entire season so you can either download it on iTunes for free or download it in Windows Media Player format.
