My daughter just found this amongst her unopened Christams toys and got very excited. She made dozens of designs, and then my husband wanted to play. As soon as he put it down, my son came in to see what everyone was doing and he had a ball (he is 4, my daughter is 9). I wouldn't buy this for a child that might lose small pieces, I will get the larger one in the future and make this really a travel toy. It is good, clean, fun.

My kids love this activity. We've had it for over two years and they are still pulling it out (I have a basket with lots of quiet activities, mostly by ThinkFun) and using it. I'm sure we've lost several pieces too, but it doesn't affect their ability to create stunning patterns, geometric stars, and so on. I love the bright hues used - red for the skinny diamonds, yellow for the medium diamonds, and blue for the fat diamonds. The color stickers are starting to peel from the magnet on a few of the diamond corners, but not many considering how old this kit is, and it doesn't bother the kids at all.

My one improvement would be to have the board fold, so that you could open it up and have the pieces you are working from facing you while you build your pattern. Right now, the kids have their pieces on one side of the board, and flip it over to build their pattern on the other side of the board. But honestly, that doesn't really faze them either.

All in all, I'm very pleased with this purchase and how it has stood the test of time.

I bought this for my 8-year-old but everyone in the house likes it too. The only complaints I have is that the magnetic board is a bit small even for a travel size and the colors on the magnetic pieces are starting to peel off the pointed edges. It still is a good educational toy though.
