This is why I like the game:
* it's easy to play
* kids can learn while they are playing
* even though a player may get to the finish line first, everyone is a winner with the game. (both players move to a star and spin/dance at the end)
* it is durable

This is what I don't like about the game (and why it doesn't get a 5-star rating from me:
* I wish a child could "mess around" with the letters on the board without playing the game. I would like the children to be able to turn it on, press each letter, hear it's song, and hear a word that begins with that letter.

More Details:
The game board is made from a very sturdy plastic which sits on top of your leap pad system. It comes with 4 characters that players can choose to "be" during play. It also comes with a game cartridge.
The game is very self explanitory. It directs the players to choose who they want to be, spin the color wheel, etc. Most 4 year olds could play it with a big person once, and then be able to play it alone after that. Younger children may need to play it a couple more times to be able to do it alone.
The idea of the game is that you are visting the "Letter Factory". (just like the dvd) and at times, things go wrong in the factory. The players have to help Prof. Quiggly get things back to working order with questions like "what letter says the 'du' sound as in duck". There are also letter order activities and simple spelling activities.

My 4-yr old daughter has seen the Letter Factory and 1st and 2nd Talking Words DVDs and has thoroughly enjoyed them as well as learning a lot about letter names, sounds and how words are put together. This game was an instant hit, though in truth it hasn't taught her anything new. What did impress me was that she took it out of the box and started playing without any adult intervention - the game is well explained verbally and each step of the game is spelt out well. She finds it entertaining and enjoys playing it alone or with me. The game is pretty quick to play and there is plenty of praise for getting things right and the usual LeapFrog method of dealing with a wrong answer, i.e. you found x, we were looking for y... Good value for money - I think it was a good buy.

What a great game for toddlers learning letters, counting, and colors! The game console tells you and your little one exactly how to set up the board and walks you through how to play the game. My 2.5 year old daughter loved it and caught on how to play right away. Can't say enough about this one!

This is another home run for Leap Frog. My Three Year old loves this game. He even plays it buy himself. He knows the Characters well from the other Leap Frog products so he was comfortable with it right away. It is a great teaching product and I really think it would be an asset to your collection. The one thing I was disappointed with was the quality of the packaging. The board ripped in half and it does not store neatly. Other than that I give it an A+.

This game is another perfect Leap Frog product. Our son received this as a Christmas present and loved it. He was three years old and didn't know his letters but could play the game by recognizing his colors (level 1). He could play by himself or with his sister (Age 6) who is reading. They both love this game. He has since turned four and has learned to recognize most of the letters. We are now playing Level 2 together to keep him challenged but he can play level 1 by himself whenever he wants. It is a great game that helps teach letters to children before they even know them and continues with letter sounds after they do.
