Sylvia, is by far my absolute favorite vocalist of all time. Sadly, I feel she's the most underrated in the history of singers. I don't think
I could put into words how much I've missed her releasing new albums, singles and videos all these years.
I like any CD/album that contains her beautiful singing. However, this particular album was a huge disappointment. After all, these days
"Greatest Hits" collections most always contain so many more tracks along with previously un-released ones. I think the track sequence, with just these nine, could have been planned out better too. Another thing that is upsetting about it. Sylvia was due to release a new album entitled "Knockin' Around" in the fall of 1986. This exact CD cover was featured as the cover art on the show "New Country" that she was performing songs from on TNN. Unfortunately, the first single, "Nothin'
Ventured Nothin' Gained" failed to become a top 10 hit and RCA shelved that album and instead decided to release this in the spring/summer of
1987. What was RCA thinking?? Even after all this time, I still feel sad and disappointed about that whole fiasco!
Well, trying to look on the bright side... At least we got one song from that unreleased "Knockin' Around" album back then. Which is her wonderful rendition of "Never My Love". Sylvia's clear, sweet, mesmerizing voice and that song alone deserves 5 stars. As most of you know "Never My Love" along with 23 other awesome tracks were included on her "Anthology" CD released in 1997. Which, is by far the BEST Sylvia compilation to date!!!
Anyhow, my other favorite tracks on this disappointingly track-lacking collection... are "Tumbleweed", "Fallin' In Love" and "Sweet Yesterday".
